Just keeping track of some stuff I like
Your current poll - "Would you use Premium skins?" needs a few more choices if you want an accurate result.

I vote, "It's reasonable for skins creators to charge for their work but I personally can't spend any more money on this hobby than I already have."

There really are positions between "I like to support skinners" and "I don't like to support skinners."

As the original poster, I'd like to reiterate that I think Premium Skins is a fine idea. My issue was with the wording of the poll.

Old news now but I still think that it was a mistake to frame the subject in those two options: support skinners or free skins forever. It's a false dichotomy.

It's possible to want to support skinners but through differnt methods: free hosting, free advertising, donations and so on. It's valid to suggest that support for the skinners should be in a different method than money.

It's also possible to agree with the idea that skinners deserve monetary compensation and still not be able to do it. This is where I'm at. It's not because I don't -want- to support them. The bottom line is I've already spent $40 on WB & IP. I don't have another $6 or so for each of the skins I love.

And yes that means if all skins were $6 I wouldn't use them. (And I wouldn't have bought WB & IP either.)

I'd buy Premium skins but not at that price and/or not in my current circumstances. That's an option that doesn't appear on the old poll and it's one that skinners (and Stardock) might want to consider.

Anyhow this is all based on opinions, personally i wish we had a few *nix users in here

You've got one right here. And he's part of a team that has made pay-for suites. Not all Linux users are of the 'free beer' group.

Besides, it's a little off topic, but more and more there are commercial software SOLD on the Linux platform.  "Everything is free on Linux" is slowly becoming a thing of the past.
